What i'm enjoying about Australian Idol right now, and about last nites episode was Billie McCarthy's Funny Valentine...i really like her voice and the way she sings...its soothing...i also really love that song...it reminds me of Michael Buble at the Opera House...it was the final song he sang...accapella...*sigh*...
I also like Chanel Cole (current favourite of the judges)...i like the fact that sometimes she just wants to have fun when she sings, and so...she does. I admire her as a team player, helping the girl who forgot her lyrics to the song they were suppose to sing as a group...by quietly singing it behind her, never out-singing her team mate, just prompting her along.
I wish i could sing...like Ngaiire Joseph...the final song she sang last nite...it just knocked me off my feet! She is so emotive and soulful...im far from capable in singing, let alone make people feel what i feel when i sing...(other than sharp pain to the ears).
I hope that these starlets get far in the competition, it would be a shame not to be able to hear them sing anymore.

Billie is the obligatory big person that gets through. Like it or not, sex appeal and image is everything and I'll be surprised if she progresses much further, maybe she'll prove me wrong , I dunno. Remember that Dicko did let a couple through based on their looks. Read that as you may I guess
Tu - So your theory is that image goes a long way, how can you explain how Ruben, a very large and sweaty (he used to sweat profousely after every performance) man beat a very pretty boy in the final of American Idol 2? Especially due to the fact that, and I may be generalising here, America is one of the most image concious countries in the world?
In terms of pop, yeah, i agree that looks are important in terms selling CDs because pop singers tend not to be able to sing so much, and they sell via a whole marketing strategy for a "package".
But the type of music that Billie is more suited to isnt pop...and for where her talents lie, women are bigger to be able to belt out the songs! She has a lovely face and a beautiful voice. She is capable of winning so long as her voice can be flexible to sing from other genres that the idolites get tested on each week.
If not, im just hoping she will get as far as the top 12 (preferrably top 6)...then hopefully she will make a CD and i can go out and buy it!
Chunga: ur comment really doesnt apply in terms of Ruben Studdard winning American Idol #2.
I've never heard of Ruben.
Was Ruben picked by the voting public? Perhaps he
was charming in a way that won over viewers. How have his record sales been?
I'm not trying to be mean, simply realistic. I don't think Billie will appeal and sell records.
He won American Idol 2, so of course in Idol tradition he was voted for by the American public!!! http://www.rubenstuddard.com
Katie Noonan from George is also rather large and George have sold millions of records and have won Aria awards. Polyserena is one of the best Aussie albums ever. She has even sang with the SSO because her voice is amazing.
But I guess you fall into a demographic that appreciates looks as opposed to talent.
and Tu, the comment on her being the "obligatory" big person to get through...thats not true because:
(1) she can sing.
(2) she isnt the only "big" person going through, there are some others and they can also sing!
(3) the judges are not suppose to "oblige" and keep a person just because they are "big", especially if they dont see or hear any talent.
Riss, but they are looking for a single pop star, a person who can single handedly sell records.
Shannon and Guy appeal to the young hip demographic.
They'll be making music videos, going on promotions. You have to look good and be hip if you want to sell to the young crowd.
Singing is only half the package.
I think she's talented, no doubt but I don't think she can sell records.
