I started my 21 day detox yesterday...im not doing it with any kit...i've done this before...so i have all the vitamins, nuts, herbs, peppermint tea, etc. ready for me...oh peppermint tea, ur my saviour...
=)
Why am i detoxing? Well, i have taken about 5-6 courses of antibiotics over a period of 2.5 months...its time to flush it all out of my system. My internal organs need a cleansing...so i need to change my diet for a bit - okay a lot, because technically its harsher than a vegans diet. Its a plus that the detox helps lose some kilos...as i put on weight taking the antibiotics (it was probably all water retained, but that will be the first to go)! *bleh*
What sucks is when ur detoxing and your mother cooks really yummy food...that has red meat in it. And then your brother comes over with a box of Krispy Kremes and says to you: "Have some!"
I looked at him and politely said no...[*bastard*...what a slack arse! he brings over KK donuts when i cant eat it!...*pfft*]
Another thing that sucks is that my little brother loves chocolate (weird for a boy...cos my older brother hates sweets), so there is heaps lying around the house...and the receptionist is selling chocolate for a fundraiser...so theres all these chocolates being flashed in front of me! I love chocolate, but its a really bad habit!
Basically, it takes a lot of will power and time to detox...to do it while working full time is hard. But i managed last time, and today as it is my second day...its not too bad...I haven't had breakfast yet, but i have my fruit with me. I'm too full from drinking one glass of water with 1/2 a lemon squeezed into it, plus the glass of water with a teaspoon of psyllium husk mixed into it, plus the 50 mL of pure aloe juice. Thats just too much liquid to try and fit breaky in the tummy.
Thankfully, i am organised (its the one thing i can boast about myself), so im prepared for this detox on my end. I just need everyone to sorta work with me a lil...pretty please???
My friend wants to organise a dinner thing this Friday, to organise our long weekend to the Blu Mts, because were doing a Murder Mystery and there are 3 mysteries to choose from. Which is all fine and dandy, but must we organise it over dinner??? I sent everyone on the list an email asking if we could do it after dinner at someone's place...everyone seems to want to get together on Saturday or Sunday...i dont see why we cant just do it before or after dinner...so that i can eat my own thing at home? once again, pretty please?
I think detoxing is like quitting smoking...instead its quitting junk food, chocolate, bread, meat, yogurt, etc...they are all the stuf that i love to eat, but not allowed to...i mean, i like nuts and fruit and some veges...but not to have any natural yogurt topped with muesli is mortifying! makes me really sad not being able to have diary...thankfully out of habit from my first detox, i drink soy milk all the time now, but i miss yogurt...*sigh*...
Its hard, because you think about what you cant have and its devastating the amount of things you CANT have! =(
I'll live...the hardest phase of the detox will fly by...i just needed to sook to someone, and this is as close as i can get to a person...

Update: They are organising pizza at a friends place...*fudge*...bunch of slack people! On Saturday nite at 7:30pm...*grrr*...

Saying no to junk food takes a great deal of discipline and desire. It's no fun when everyone is enjoying great food and you can't. But if you want something bad enough, you need to make those certain sacrifices.
The Game
i could never go on a detox, i have so little willpower to resist unhealthy food! good luck!
You are allowed to eat fish...but i dont like fish...or any seafood...ate too much as a child...so, when i need meat or something...i will have to resort to fish...
its okay, really...because i have been through it before, ino what to expect and ino what benefits lie ahead of me when i finish...
all good!
^_^
The thing is if you do it only for a few weeks, will the effect be long term? What happens when you go back to your old ways?
The Game
Well, from the first time...i adopted a healthy eating habit from it...i ate less junk and had more fruit and vegetables u just keep to it cos its a habit. What i snacked on was different, i kept eating nuts, drinking herbal teas, but that was over 6 months ago.
I still drink aloe juice, even after i finished the detox, and i kept drinking soy milk to this day.
Slowly the bad eating habits sneaked back in...uno, when ur out with friends...the type of food you eat depends on where you all go and what you choose to eat ends up being the wrong choice...its okay if u are going to be at home more often...or if ur not planning on eating out...
I'm not a salad-hold-the-dressing type of girl...im more the steak and mash potato person, so its hard to go out to dinner and have only salad WITHOUT the dressing too!
The detoxing isnt a long term thing. Ur not meant to hold it up for extended periods of time. It really is to flush the system out, so ur suppose to repeat it once in a while...just to cleanse ur system. If you choose to take on such a lifestyle ur pretty much opting to be a vegan, a very strict one at that.
But im not doing this long term, this is just for me to start all over again. The last time i did it, it cleared my sinus allergy right before the pollen was at its peak. So, i'm hoping that it will clear my winter allergies...and my sinus will clear up also!
=)
Detoxing can be done seasonally like a week of a new season. Or one day of every month...or like me, 21 days every 6 months. Its really up to u and ur lifestyle.
Why do you have to go on a course of anti-biotics? And who said guys liking chocolate is weird?I have issues with that statement... :P
