...then you must be one!
I was given a really nice compliment from a quirky Manager just a moment ago.
He assumed that i was a Project Manager. Since i had the Dip. of PM assessment answers for him to borrow for his 3 year re-assessment. (As a registered anything in Project Management, you get assessed every 3 years to prove that you are up to scratch).
But it wasnt because I had the assessment answers from when i got assessed for my Cert. of PM. He just assumed because:
"You look like a manager. You act like a manager. You have this persona that is to be respected."
So, it really comes down to the fact that if you dress like one, and you sound like one, people perceive you as "being" one?!?!
I have been dressing less bummy, now that i am located at the CBD - but thats out of vanity. I dont want to look crap around all the gorgeous women. I have to at least dress accordingly. Even when i was at Glebe, i deliberately dressed more professionally when i knew i had to go to the CBD for meetings. I know i dont look as gorgeous as the other women do, but i think a woman in a good suit looks just as impressive as a man in a good suit. I might not wear suits all the time, but thats besides the point. The point is, I am dressing more smart than casual.
So, i guess i have succeeded in what i have been trying to achieve, some what.
He thinks, by my current display, that i would make a good PM...I'm not sure if i agree with him. Why? Because i dont think that i am ready for all the responsibility that rests on the PM's shoulders. PM's are like the Jack of all Trades. They don't specialise in one thing in particular, but they know enough about everything.
I don't know enough about everything. I wish i had more technical knowledge, especially around the physical networks. *ugh*
I just hope that once i get my Dip. of PM, that they wont throw me into the deep end. I am suspecting that there is a lot of work coming in, which is why the quirky manager wanted to confirm that i was a PM. Once i become registered as a PM, i think they will give me projects to handle on my own. Especially if they dont have enough PM's to take on the work.
And that is what is freaking me out.
