Alterna-Date...

Veronica Mars had the "Alterna-Prom" - which was an alternative to not having a school prom, since the rich kids boozed up and got caught by the principal, thereby forcing him to cancel the prom that year.

I am having an "Alterna-Date" this Saturday and I am actually getting excited about this. He will take me shopping, because he wants to go too. Then we will go have dinner at Ubud (Indonesian). And after that, we'll go watch Hard Candy.

What is brilliant about this Alterna-Date, is the fact that im going with my best friend. So, i dont have to worry about whether he will kiss me or not. Whether i should kiss him or not at the end. I dont have to worry about any awkward moments. We dont have to try and fill the silence with clever comments or some funny anecdote to impress one another. Its casual, its cool, and it feels like a date without being a date.

I am even going to make an effort to wear something other than jeans, a stretch knit top and my black coat.

I really am loving this idea of "going out" with my best friend, without actually having the pressures of a date. What makes me feel guilty, though, is the fact that he isn't gay and i am potentially ruining his chances of ever finding a girl. And sadly, he will find a real "girlfriend" who will replace me in terms of the time we are spending together. Sooner or later.

So, although this is working out fine for me, since i dont ever plan on dating anyone, full stop. I'm not sure if he will be cool with the idea that he is my Alterna-Date, but I just wont tell him. Well, i probably will tell him...he will laugh...and just flow with it...and then when he finds his "somebody", and he will then inevitably replace me with her. And then, my Alterna-Date days will come to an end.

At least this Saturday will be fun.
