I went to watch "OSS 117 Le Caire Nid d'Espions" (OSS 117: Cairo - Nest Of Spies) on Sunday and everything seemed nice and sunny. The movie was a hoot in a Get Smart sort of way.
After the movie, we grabbed a quick bite from Berkelouws and with the heat i felt calm and everything in my life seemed to have slowed down by a few steady paces.
As both my "alterna-date" and i had respective BBQs to attend that afternoon, we headed towards home after grabbing our light lunch.
When i arrived home, my mother came into my room and asked me to take her to the travel agent because my uncle in Vietnam had just passed away that morning. I asked her if she wanted me to get a ticket online, but she reminded me about the visa she would need. But then the travel agent, if opened, wouldnt be able to issue a visa that fast either!!!
Knowing that it was a fruitless activity, i drove her to the travel agent anyway, to see if it was still opened at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon.
My older brother took the day off on Monday to take her to the travel agent. Some how my mother managed to buy a ticket after 9am and get on a plane for an 11am flight.
My mother obviously didnt sleep well on Sunday night. So, when i got up bright and early at about 5:50am she was already doing house chores. When i left the house, she walked me out. Funny how one's mind works...she was instructing me on which pot plant i needed to water daily, if she was able to get an airfare. The pot plant with the red flowers i bought for her birthday last year...the accompanying white flowered version and her chilli tree. Plus the pot with her "king" flowers - which she is keeping healthy because one day, when i get married, she wants me to hold a bunch of them in my bouquet and where ever i go with them, it will leave a beautiful trailing fragrance...
My uncle is the baby of the family. My grandmother told my mother on her deathbed that she would not die with her eyes closed if my uncle was not going to be looked after by anyone. So, my mother promised her that she would until either/or should pass, so that my grandmother could rest in peace.
As i get older, im learning to accept my age. What i dont like happening, as i get older, is that everyone from about my parents age onwards are slowly but surely leaving this world. And the frequency increases as you age...yes im stating an obvious fact...but realising it and living it are two different things.
I hope that my uncle has gone to a better place. I hope that my mother is coping.
She is suppose to return next Monday, but that is yet to be confirmed. I'm assuming that the travel agent probably helped my mother purchase a business class airfare on her own special travel agent price for my mother to have left so soon, in such a flurry. I should thank her.
