My new workmate...well he isnt all that new anymore, but he is the newest addition to the team.
He sits next to me.
Initially, i wasnt sure what to make of him...because he was quiet and reserved. I mean, i knew he was polite...be he didnt seem to want to mingle with the rest of us.
Then after i moved to his corner of our open-planned sitting arrangement, we started talking.
He did Comp Sci too...but he pays me out because i went to USYD (im a snob apparently) and he went to UWS.
He is 10 years my senior but i like talking to him. He calls me "squirt" and when i offer my opinion that obviously goes against the grain...he says that im "answering back to my elders..." or "these generation Y kids...have no respect..." ahhahahaaha
I like talking to him, because he is educated and has a lot to share...and its an ego trip for me, that i can discuss about things on his level. Most of the time, when were taking the mickey out of eachother we are on an even playing field.
I forget that he is 10 years older and is well travelled, experienced, and has been in the industry for just as long as our age gap. I think when i speak to him, he sometimes forgets that i am younger...altho, he did initially guess that i was only 18 y/o.
I think its my giggle, that makes him think that im younger...when im not!
Sometimes, my responses to certain issues just makes him laugh...thankfully, he isnt laughing at me...but laughing at the memories that i bring back to him...my mentality is like a mirror of his when he was younger...he felt the same way i felt about things...
And he assures me now, my thoughts and feelings will change when i get to his age...heh! is that something to look forward to?
He claims he was arrogant when he was younger...i asked if thats what he thought i was, arrogant? He said its more readily noticed in men...women conceal it better.
That didnt answer my question! ahahahahaa
And he hates it when im correct, which is often when its related to work stuff. *LoL*
Its really cool talking to him about travel...we both look at travel sites and check out airfares when work gets annoying. His brother lives in Switzerland and when he goes to Europe thats his point of reference when he goes to the neighbouring countries.
He is the only other person who understands my stress with Reporting!
Its cool that i can b*tch about Optus to him too, because thats who he worked for previously...and he obviously hated it enough to get out of there...
Im trying to teach him how to be aggressive...he thinks i should go work for Optus! I took that as an insult! ahahahaha
I wonder if i will mellow out like he has in 10 years time...? I dont think so, but then again, anything is possible.
I asked him about "romance"...and he said that it was an independent issue...that romance was one of the expressions of affection for another...every guy is different, and every time it is different...it all depends on whether and whom their object of desire is and how they respond to them.
I should have spoken to him first.
He often has a way of putting things into perspective.

Can you slam a keyboard ontop of his fingers? That might teach him to be agressive. And maybe if you giggle he might enjoy it. Then you can slam a monitor on his fingers.......?
He use to work at Optus? What did and does he do?
and what's so bad about Optus ey?? I reckon Optus is a pretty damn good company, better than Tel$tra anyday!
No bias there of course :)
