*special*

I asked my colleague, who is in a different team:

"Why do you get to have 2 flat screen monitors?"

He replies to me with:

"Cos im speciiiiiaaaaallllll! Although, that implies that im handicapped, doesnt it?"

Me:

"hahahahaha...not really."

He then says:

"We just need 2 monitors for important stuff. Like, we need to open many applications all at once...for instance, web browser, email, msn, etc. All the important personal stuff!"

Me:

"Ooooo...I wanna be special too!"

Nah...at the end of the day, i know why they need 2 monitors...its for that one instance where everything goes up the duff...and they need to quickly view whats going wrong with our customer's network! One monitor wouldnt be enough, cos our applications which monitor the networks arent consolidated and they need to open 50 screens to get the full picture!

I sorta like the fact that I have a simple black box...i dont have to be responsible for that crap...i moved away from dealing with client network problems...and i dont want to go back to it! And thankfully, i dont have to...for now.

I'm so special (sarcasm inserted here) that i will be moving where the developers are being relocated to. *great - forehead slap* I was suppose to go to World Square...but they dont have much desk space left in the office...and since im a contractor, im not important to them...only to my manager. But the "team" are all going to Glebe...and since im part of that team...im going to Glebe too...not the nice shopping strip end of Glebe...but the dodgy industrial end of Glebe...away from public transport...My manager will be spreading her time between World Square and Glebe. Which was what I thought i was going to do...so I could "base" myself at World Square...but i guess not now!

=(

I have a thing with the developers...its not that i hate them...but they have this attitude, where they think that they are "holier than thou" sorta thing...

Example - I had just joined the team, I hadnt played around with the applications they used, cos I wasnt sure which apps were live or not. But, i had noticed some changes and inquired in a meeting where all of the developers were present, to ask who made the modifications? And if they could tell me whom, it would be much appreciated (as i needed to update a register my manager asked me to set up)!

One of the developers turns around and instead of giving me a Yes/No...says to me: "You know you can run a query and find out who did what - you do know that right?!"

I felt like telling him:

"Mate - its my fudging second day on this project, I havent had a chance to play around with queries to figure out who made changes to what. Since we are having a bloody team meeting right now, couldnt you just tell me, a simple yes or no? Like, cut down my time spent on playing with queries by just answering my fudging question???"

But i obviously didnt say that, and i could only grin and bear it, while my manager who was baffled asked: "You can do that? How come no one told me?" (My sentiments exactly...how come no one told me that this was possible when it was handed over to me?!)

The actual procedure is to CC me on everything so that an automated email gets sent to me and i will know instantly what was modified!!! And i was only informed that i was able to do this, about 2 weeks later.

*head against the wall*

Our next release is suppose to go into UAT by the end of this month...things dont look too good. Bloody developers...you know, contrary to what you may think of geeky developers...they dont sit silently in a corner and bash keys all day. They also sit around in a circle, like the knights of camelot and are able to talk your ears off! I think they silently think that they are knights when they sit around like that...but one thing is true...they dont document anything! Ever known a developer to be good with documentation?

Better yet, ever known a developer who delivered only what was asked of them in the specifications without, i repeat, without any form of funky enhancements (that were not requested by the stakeholders)???

Let me clear something up...L, E and i are in fact programmers. We graduated uni with pretty much programming degrees. But we are not developers/programmers...the only one who is remotely close to doing programming-ish, in a way, is L with her testing role. Her main objective is to break what they make...so that doesnt really count. I co-ordinate and manage people in the telco industry. While E, he doesnt even work in IT - which i think is the best thing for him. *LoL*

So, i do understand developers/programmers to an extent...and i dont hate them, i just dont like the way these guys patronise me. I dont claim to be an expert...on anything, i just work hard and im efficient. I just dont like that they have assumed that i dont have an IT background and that im just some junior doing reports fresh from a secretarial stint somewhere!

*grrr*
